Each two-day workshop is packed with practical strategies, actionable tips, and effective tools, empowering you to create engaging, student-centered routines that breathe new life into your literacy instruction. Leave equipped with fresh ideas to ignite enthusiasm in your classroom and foster a deeper connection to learning for all students.

You can choose any, or all of the two-day workshops in this series. This will allow you to tailor strategies and approaches to your unique classroom needs, ensuring that your instruction is both impactful and relevant to your students’ learning journey.



1. The Power of Syntax: Digging Deeper with High-Leverage Routines

  • This two-day workshop on syntax will provide participants with an introduction to the fundamental principles of sentence structure, grammar, and phrasing and how these elements influence comprehension and fluency. Attendees will explore high-leverage routines that can be incorporated into whole-group and small-group instruction.

2. Knowledge Building and Comprehension*

  • This two-day workshop series will take a deep dive into strategies to build background knowledge and comprehension.

On day one, participants will gain strategies for:

  • Building Background Knowledge
  • Six Thinking Moves for Comprehension
  • Building Text Sets
  • Repeated Interactive Read-Alouds

On day two, participants will learn more about a variety of small-group instructional strategies:

  • Nurture deep thinking of text
  • Supporting students in gaining access to complex grade-level text
  • Assessing areas of need for each student

3. Unlocking Words: Building Comprehension Through Vocabulary and Morphology*

  • This two-day workshop will clarify participants’ understanding of how vocabulary knowledge, morphological awareness, and independent word-learning skills work together to boost reading comprehension and improve literacy outcomes.
  • Participants will learn how to synthesize this learning into independent word-solving routines that will help students unlock the meaning of unknown words in their independent reading. Participants will leave with practical, applicable next steps for their instruction in these key bridging processes.

4. Writing About Reading to Deepen Comprehension*

  • This two-day workshop series will take a deep dive into the connection between reading and writing instruction.
  • Participants will gain knowledge and instructional strategies on the writing rope, note-taking strategies, summarizing, and applying text structure. These strategies will help your students organize, clarify, solidify their understanding, extend their thinking, and engage as they develop their reading and writing skills.

EVENT CANCELLATIONS


Participant Cancellations: Cancellations must be submitted in writing by emailing info@cesa6.org. Registrants who cancel at least 14 calendar days prior to the event start date are eligible for a full refund, minus any non-refundable service or material fees. Cancellations received 7 to 13 calendar days before the event will be eligible for a 50% refund. No refunds will be provided for cancellations made within 7 calendar days of the event. Participants who do not attend without prior notice ("no call, no show") will be charged the full event fee.

Event Changes or Cancellations by CESA 6: CESA 6 reserves the right to change or cancel an event due to unforeseen circumstances, including but not limited to low enrollment, presenter availability, or other factors beyond our control. Participants will be notified promptly via email and offered either a full refund or a credit toward a future event.

Registration Transfers: Registrations may be transferred to another individual from the same organization at no additional cost. Please contact us at least 48 hours before the event start date to request a transfer.
