Leaders will build a strong knowledge base about science-based research for reading instruction. You will explore key high-leverage instructional routines that are science-aligned and that support the current brain research about reading. The CESA 6 Literacy team will dive into the components of structured literacy instruction and identify and teach you the necessary shifts in practice. Leaders will collaborate with colleagues to develop a strategic literacy district implementation plan.
Goals:
- Grow your knowledge about phonological awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, phonemic awareness, and phonics and understand the brain research that support these areas of reading.
- Learn key instructional frameworks that create opportunities for students to transfer skills from phonics into both reading and writing.
- Explore high-leverage instructional routines and understand how to identify strong practices in the classroom.
- Understand the change process and change management to lead the literacy improvement work.
- Build knowledge about leadership strategies that ground the planning process and support literacy improvement.
