Disciplinary Literacy Academy, Grades 6-12

Address the Knowledge Gap: Raising the Level of Literacy Tasks in Every Content Area

Join cohort 3 of this two-year academy for secondary teachers and administrators to come together to promote authentic application of learning and systems change. Learning sessions provide the strategies, resources, and foundational knowledge needed to raise the level of literacy tasks in every content area while personalized support days in your district provide opportunities to gather instructional data, strategically plan your next steps, and supporting teachers with in-the-moment feedback and learning.

In-Person Learning Sessions

• Build background knowledge of best practices in disciplinary literacy, including the latest science of reading research.
• Identify and unpack the literacy skills embedded in content area standards (e.g.: Science and Engineering Practices/Cross-Cutting Concepts, Social Studies, Inquiry Strand, Standards of Mathematical Practice).
• Design authentic opportunities for students to read and write as practitioners of your specific discipline.
• Develop a repertoire of strategies to make authentic reading, writing, and vocabulary-building opportunities accessible to all students.

In-district Coaching Support

• Support teachers in implementing literacy routines and strategies across content areas.
• Collect instructional data to highlight your system’s current reality using a learning walk routine.
• Develop a strategic plan to scale the learning across your system.
• Support teacher leaders, coaches, and building/district administrators in leading disciplinary literacy work across your system.

Year 1:

• Two half-day, in-person sessions for leaders
• Three full-day, in-person learning sessions for the whole team
• Three in-district coaching sessions

Year 2:

• One half-day in-person session for leaders
• Two full-day, in-person sessions for the whole team
• Three in-district coaching sessions

Times:  8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Whole-Team Learning Sessions:

• October 15, 2025
• February 9, 2026
• April 28, 2026

Times:  8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Cost:

• CESA 6 Districts
  • $12,495 per team (3-5 team members) per year
  • $13,750 per team (6-9 team members) per year

• Non-CESA 6 Districts
  • $13,595 per team (3-5 team members) per year
  • $14,975 per team (6-9 team members) per year

WORKSHOP CANCELLATIONS

Participant Cancellations: Cancellations must be submitted in writing by emailing info@cesa6.org. Registrants who cancel at least 14 calendar days prior to the event start date are eligible for a full refund, minus any non-refundable service or material fees. Cancellations received 7 to 13 calendar days before the event will be eligible for a 50% refund. No refunds will be provided for cancellations made within 7 calendar days of the event. Participants who do not attend without prior notice ("no call, no show") will be charged the full event fee.

Event Changes or Cancellations by CESA 6: CESA 6 reserves the right to change or cancel an event due to unforeseen circumstances, including but not limited to low enrollment, presenter availability, or other factors beyond our control. Participants will be notified promptly via email and offered either a full refund or a credit toward a future event.

Registration Transfers: Registrations may be transferred to another individual from the same organization at no additional cost. Please contact us at least 48 hours before the event start date to request a transfer.
